Jeep Key Replacement in Boston

Jeeps handle New England winters better than most vehicles, which is exactly why so many of them are parked around Boston and why our technicians work on them right through the year in every kind of weather.

Jeep Models We Make Keys For

Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Cherokee, Compass, Gladiator, Renegade, Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer.

The SKIM and SKREEM Immobilizer

Jeep runs the Chrysler SKIM or SKREEM immobilizer, and that system demands a PIN tied to the individual vehicle before any key can be added to it. Older models use the fobik, a one piece fob carrying a fold out or slot in blade, while later vehicles moved to proximity fobs. Certain model years also tie the key into the steering column lock, which changes the diagnosis completely when a key refuses to turn.

When the Fob Stops Locking but the Engine Still Starts

A common Jeep complaint is a fob that has stopped locking the doors while the vehicle continues to start perfectly well. That points at the remote side of the fob rather than the immobilizer, and it can often be repaired by moving the board into a fresh shell instead of buying a complete replacement, which saves a considerable amount of money.

Winter Damage and Modified Vehicles

Winter is hard on these vehicles because road salt works its way into door cylinders and ignition switches, and a lock that has felt stiff since January is usually much closer to failing than its owner realizes. Wranglers and Gladiators are also modified more than most vehicles we see, and aftermarket alarms, winch controllers and remote starters can interfere with programming, so tell our operator if anything beyond factory equipment has been fitted.
